Mural at Hillandale
Mural at Hillandale is the developer's name for this
80-townhome project on Hillandale between I-85 and the
golf course.

The development plan for this townhome project on
Hillandale Road was approved by the Durham City Council
in October of 2020. This approval followed multiple
meetings from 2018-2020 between representatives of
WHHNA, particularly neighbors living on Tampa, Indian
Trail and Alabama, and the developer at the time. Since the
development plan was approved, the property has been
owned by a company in Raleigh.

On 6/26/26, the 12-acre property including lots numbering
from 1716 to 1734 Hillandale Rd. was sold by Raleigh-based
Church St Company to Buckingham Co. headquartered in
Indianapolis, Indiana. Buckingham is a multifamily development company that develops (site plan, permits, etc.), constructs, and manages its properties, typically for 15 or more years. This property and development, which for the past 8 years we have called the Chesterfield Project, will now be called Mural at Hillandale.

- The image above shows the general layout of the townhomes on the property.
- There will only be one access point to the property. It will be on Hillandale Rd and towards the northern end of the property. There will be a dedicated right turn lane for traffic heading north on Hillandale Rd. and a dedicated left turn lane for traffic heading south. Traffic exiting the property must turn right – no left turns out of the property. (During construction, there will be an access point for construction vehicles near the southern end that will be closed at the end of the project construction.)
- It is anticipated that the project will be complete in 22 months. Townhomes will be rented as buildings are completed and they anticipate that units will begin to come online in 15 months.
